Certification

Certification is a procedure of a product’s or service’s correspondence to statutory regulations. The certification process is always made by a third party, independent from the producer or consumer. Certification is done by special accredited certification bodies.

Types of Certification

Certification can be of two types: voluntary certification and mandatory certification.
Mandatory certification is done to validate obligatory regulations and requirements set by the RF legislation for a given product or service. The certificate and mark of conformity, received as a result of mandatory certification, are valid everywhere within the Russian Federation.

You cannot sell goods that are subject to mandatory certification within the Russian Federation unless you obtain the necessary certificates, made in strict correspondence with the regulations.

When going through the process of certification you may encounter various problems that will cost you much time, money and may be very stressful and, as a result, the development of your business in Russia might be halted for an indefinite period.

No matter how you process the certification – independently at the official certification bodies of the RF or through the certification centers – you will in both cases have to first translate the whole package of documents into Russian as, otherwise you will not be awarded any certificates. Herewith you should take into consideration the fact that the official documents that are accepted for certification of goods must have conventional terms and must be established for each branch or industry sector. If you translate documents in one place and receive certificates in another, you may encounter problems with the compliance of the translation with the regulations.
